Dylan Clarke picked up his 19th goal, which leads all Thunderbolts in goals, and Jonah Imoo made 35 saves, many of them in spectacular fashion, as the Thunderbolts worked hard throughout the evening as Evansville lost 8-2 against Pensacola on Saturday.
In the second period, a shot from the blue line by Lee Christensen was tipped on the way to the net by Jackson Leef (currently credited to Christensen) past Brian Billett to cut their deficit to 3-1. The goal, at the 5:57 mark, was also assisted by Nick D’Avolio. After two penalties to Pensacola late in the second period, the Thunderbolts went on a 5-on-3 power play. With 42 seconds left in the period, a blast by Clarke found its way to the back of the net, assisted by Cory Melkert and Chase Nieuwendyk.
All in all for Evansville, Clarke and Leef pick up a goal each and Melkert, D’Avolio, Christensen and Nieuwendyk picked up an assist each. Imoo finished with 35 saves on the evening. The Thunderbolts return home for Bud Light’s Thirsty Thursday on Feb. 8 for a match-up with the Birmingham Bulls. Face-off will be at 6:15 p.m. CST.
