The Evansville Thunderbolts announced today the signing of five players to next season's roster.  Three of these signings, defenseman Frank Schumacher, and forwards Carter Shinkaruk and Shayne Morrissey, are returning Thunderbolts.  The other two signings, forwards Alex Carlsson and Zac Sikich, are looking to making their professional debuts with the Thunderbolts.

  • Frank Schumacher (Defense) – Schumacher, native of Brighton, Mich., is returning for his fourth consecutive season in an Evansville uniform, dating back to his stint with the Evansville IceMen in 2015-16.  The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defenseman put up his best numbers to date last season, finishing with 5 goals and 20 points in 41 games, earning a 4-game call-up to the ECHL's Indy Fuel in the process.  “It's going to be another season that ends up being better than the last,” said Schumacher.  “I'm excited to come back and play for this organization once again, and I can't wait to see the new changes that are in store for next season”.

  • Shayne Morrissey (Forward) – The 5-foot-9, 181-pound native of St. John's, NL. moved around to multiple teams last year, in his first professional season.  Starting with the FHL's Danville Dashers, he put up 5 goals and 8 points in 4 games before moving up to the SPHL, where he played 13 games with the Huntsville Havoc, tallying 3 goals and 6 points.  From there he moved on to Pensacola, putting up 5 goals and 3 assists in 14 games as an Ice Flyer, before ending his travels and joining the Thunderbolts.  Morrissey had his best numbers in Evansville, scoring 4 goals and 11 points in 15 games.  “I really enjoyed my time in Evansville last season, it was great playing in front of the Evansville fans alongside a great group of players and staff,” said Morrissey.  “I'm looking forward to working towards winning the President's Cup with the Thunderbolts this season!”.

  • Carter Shinkaruk (Forward) – Shinkaruk, who stands at 5-foot-10 and 185-pounds, started his professional career in Hungary, playing for Ferencváros TC of the Erste Liga, based out of the city of Budapest, in 2016-17.  The Langley, B.C. native returned to North America for 2017-18, starting the season with the Huntsville Havoc, scoring 6 goals and 10 points in 34 games. After being placed on waivers, the Thunderbolts swiftly picked him up, and he would prove to be a worthwhile addition, scoring 4 goals and 7 points in only 10 games in an Evansville uniform.  “I am extremely excited to return to Evansville this season,” said Shinkaruk.  “We made great strides as an organization last season, and I am looking forward to help build and establish a tradition of success for Evansville in the SPHL.”

  • Alex Carlsson (Forward) – Carlsson signs with the Thunderbolts following four years at Lindenwood University, playing in 114 games and scoring 17 goals along with 23 assists for 40 points.  The native of Upplands Väsby, Sweden stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 216 pounds.  “I'm looking forward to taking the next step of my career and proving myself in a new environment,” said Carlsson.  “I'm excited for this opportunity, and hope to make Evansville my new home!”

  • Zac Sikich (Forward) – Sikich, who stands at 5-foot-11 and 181 pounds, turns pro after concluding his college playing career at SUNY-Brockport.  In 2017-18, Sikich established his best numbers, scoring 10 goals and 25 points in 25 games.  In four total seasons, the Oak Park, Calif. native scored 36 goals and 66 points in 103 games. Prior to college, Sikich played four seasons with the Granite City Lumberjacks junior club. “I'm grateful for the opportunity, and I'm excited to start my professional career with the Thunderbolts,” Sikich said.

These five players join Brandon Lubin, Hunter Stewart, Mike Fazio, Fred Hein, Taylor Cutting, Beau Walker, Ian Sylves, Ryan Staynor, Pijus Rulevicius, Ben Owen, and Robbie Hall on October’s training camp roster.
