The Evansville Thunderbolts had two very close games this past weekend, against Peoria, earning a point in a 4-3 overtime loss, and on Friday against Huntsville, just barely falling 3-2. The Bolts will take on Huntsville once again, tomorrow (December 21st) at home, and Saturday in Huntsville.
Weekend In Review:
On Friday, the Thunderbolts jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead off of goals from Mark Petaccio and Pijus Rulevicius, however penalties to both in the second period would give Huntsville the window to get back into the game, and take the lead with 3 unanswered goals, which would earn the victory for Huntsville. The next night, Evansville again would lead 2-0 early off of goals from Brandon Lubin and Nathan Ferriero, however Peoria would tie in the third. Petaccio would give Evansville a late lead, but the Rivermen again would tie in the final minute, then win in overtime, 4-3.
The Week Ahead:
The Thunderbolts host the Huntsville Havoc on Friday night for Home for The Holidays Night at the Ford Center, featuring jersey canvas auctions and an ugly Christmas sweater contest. Friday’s game is set to begin at 7:15pm CT. Saturday, the Thunderbolts play their last game before Christmas, in Huntsville beginning at 7:00pm CT. You can catch the action on SPHL Live or listen in for free on the Thunderbolts MixLr Channel, or through the Official Evansville Thunderbolts App, available on the App Store and Google Play.
Scouting the Opponent:
The Havoc scored three goals in 5:09 of the second period against Evansville, from Pat Condon, Rob Darrar, and Connor Schmidt. Max Milosek backstopped the Havoc to the win and would do so again the next night in a 5-1 upset of the Birmingham Bulls. Peter Sikalis found the back of the net twice, Kyle Sharkey, Derek Perl, and Schmidt also picked up a goal.
